DIY Spooky Cat Sleeping Bag
Does anyone else remember when picking out a movie was basically the whole Friday night event?
You’d pile into the car, head to Blockbuster, wander the aisles for what felt like forever, and finally agree on the movie.
Then came the snacks.
Popcorn. Candy. Something fizzy to drink. Maybe a pizza on the way home.
And then everyone would pile onto the floor with blankets and pillows for movie night.
There was just something so fun about it.
So naturally…I decided our Bitsy Friends needed their own tiny version.
This week’s make is a DIY Spooky Cat Sleeping Bag, complete with a free sewing pattern AND some bonus Halloween printables so your Bitsy Friends can have a perfectly tiny, very 90s-coded Halloween movie night of their own.

Make the Spooky Cat Sleeping Bag
This little sleeping bag is made to fit our 5-inch Bitsy Friends, but it can also work for other similarly sized mini dolls and stuffed friends.
And like most of our Bitsy makes, you don’t need anything fancy. Dig through your fabric scraps, grab your sewing supplies, and use whatever colors and prints make you happy.
What You’ll Need
- Spooky Cat Sleeping Bag pattern
- Fabric for the outside ( I like cotton for this )
-
Coordinating fabric for the lining
- Basic sewing supplies
- Scissors
- Thread
- Stuffing or batting, if you’d like your sleeping bag a little extra cozy ( I did not use any but you're welcome to make this your own )
- Interfacing if you want your bag to have a bit of structure.

How to Make Your Mini Sleeping Bag

Print + Cut Your Pattern
Print your free pattern at 100% scale and cut out your pattern pieces.
Cut Your Fabric

Sew Your Sleeping Bag Together

Turn + Finish
Turn everything right side out, press if needed, and finish your final seams.
Then tuck a Bitsy Friend inside and admire the ridiculous cuteness of a five-inch animal tucked into a spooky cat sleeping bag.
Because apparently this is what adulthood looks like now, and I am completely fine with it.

Now We Need Snacks…
A sleeping bag alone does not make a proper 90s movie night.
So I made you a few bonus Halloween movie-night printables too!
Print them, cut them out, and set up a tiny movie night with your Bitsy Friends. Add some pretend popcorn, treats, blankets, and maybe even make a little cardboard TV.
Bonus points if you dramatically announce that everyone gets to pick ONE movie and then spend 45 minutes deciding which one.

A Little Bit of That Friday-Night Magic
I think that’s part of why I love making these tiny things so much.
They remind me of the little rituals that made childhood feel big.
Going to pick out a movie. Choosing your candy. Building a nest of blankets on the floor. Hearing the popcorn popping from the kitchen while you waited for everyone to sit down.
None of it was particularly fancy.
But somehow, we remember it.
And maybe that’s the magic we’re trying to recreate when we make something tiny, set up a silly little movie night, or sit down on the floor and play alongside our kids.
So print the pattern. Make the sleeping bag. Pop some real popcorn.
And for one night, pretend it’s 1997 and somebody just yelled from across Blockbuster:
“I found the movie!”
Happy making, friends.
