DIY Mini Camper Dollhouse Purse + Free Sewing Pattern

We’re making a DIY mini camper dollhouse purse! It's a little fabric vintage camper that looks like a tiny purse when it’s all zipped up, but unzip it and it opens into its very own miniature dollhouse!

Inside, there’s a cozy little bed, a table and chairs, and even a tiny picnic basket ready for an adventure.

And, of course, it’s perfectly sized for your favorite mini dolls and Bitsy Friends.

A Tiny Dollhouse You Can Take Anywhere

One of my favorite things about miniature play is how easy it is to turn something small into an entire world.

For this project, I wanted to create something that could be played with at home but also packed up and taken along for adventures.

When the camper is zipped closed, it becomes an adorable little vintage camper-shaped purse. Tuck your dolls and accessories inside, zip it up, and you have a tiny world ready to go.

Then, when it’s time to play, unzip the camper and open it flat to reveal the little dollhouse inside.

It would be such a fun toy to bring along for road trips, restaurants, visits to Grandma’s house, waiting rooms, or anywhere your little one might need something quiet and creative to play with.

What’s Inside Our Mini Camper?

I wanted the inside to feel like a teeny-tiny camping getaway.

Our camper includes:

• A little bed for your mini dolls
• A miniature table and chairs
• A tiny sewn-in picnic basket
  
• A zipper so the entire camper can close up into a portable purse

You can follow my version exactly or use the pattern as a starting point and create your own little camper world.

Add tiny pillows. Make a sleeping bag. Sew little curtains. Create miniature food for the picnic basket. You could even let your child choose the fabrics and help decide what their camper needs.

There are so many ways to make this one your own.

Supplies You’ll Need

For this project, you’ll need:

• Fabric for the outside of your camper
• Fabric and felt scraps for the interior and accessories
• Batting or interfacing to give the camper structure 
• A zipper
• Thread
• Sewing machine
• Fabric scissors
• Pins or clips
• Purse hardware

You may also want to pull out your fabric scrap bin for this one. The tiny details are perfect for using those little pieces of fabric that are too cute to throw away.

Print the pattern at 100% / actual size unless otherwise noted on the pattern.

I love sharing projects like this because you don’t need an overflowing craft room or expensive supplies to create something magical for your kids. Sometimes a few fabric scraps and an afternoon of making can become a toy they’ll remember for years.

How to Make the DIY Mini Camper Dollhouse Purse

Because this project is much easier to explain when you can actually see how everything comes together, I created a complete step-by-step video tutorial on Instagram. However, here is how you set the front and inside panels up and get them ready to be sewn together.

I recommend downloading and printing your pattern first, gathering your supplies, and then sewing along with me.

And don’t worry about making yours exactly like mine.

That is half the fun of these projects.

Choose different fabrics. Change the inside. Add pockets. Make tiny bedding. Create a miniature kitchen. Let your little one help design their dream camper.

Make a Whole Mini Camping Adventure

Once your camper is finished, you don’t have to stop there!

Turn it into an entire miniature camping adventure.

Make tiny sleeping bags from fabric scraps, create miniature food for your picnic basket, build a little campfire, or make a tiny campsite from cardboard and things you already have around the house.

Sometimes the making becomes just as much a part of the play as the finished toy.

That’s really what I hope these projects inspire: a reason to sit down together, make something with your hands, and then see where your child’s imagination takes it.

Made for Little Adventures

My favorite toys have always been the ones that leave room for the child to decide what happens next.

Today this little camper might be parked beside a pretend lake.

Tomorrow it might travel across the living room to visit a bunny family.

And next week? Who knows.
